Selection of Glass Grinding Materials for Glass Grinding Wheels

Abrasive is the main material used in the cutting and leveling process of metal surfaces. In practical production, commonly used abrasives include artificial diamond, corundum, diamond, diatomaceous earth, quartz sand, and pumice.

Artificial diamond sand - with high hardness and small toughness (compared to other abrasives), mainly used for rough grinding and polishing of low strength metals (such as pig iron, brass, bronze, etc.).

Corundum - There are two types: artificial and natural. The higher the Al2O3 content of bauxite in corundum, the higher its hardness. Corundum is a better material for rough grinding using grinding wheels, and it has greater toughness than artificial diamond sand. The particles of corundum are multifaceted, and the sharp edges of the particles are blunt compared to those of artificial corundum. Suitable for metals with higher toughness and fracture strength, such as quenched steel, malleable cast iron, manganese bronze, etc.

Diamond sand - has medium hardness and excellent toughness, suitable for polishing all metals.

Diatomaceous earth - has a less sharp cutting surface and excellent toughness, which can smooth defects such as scratches and scratches on metal surfaces. It is a universal polishing and polishing material.

Based on the properties of various abrasives mentioned above, it can be concluded that when grinding hard metal products, it is advisable to use artificial corundum, corundum or corundum, followed by fine-grained corundum, pumice, quartz powder, etc. for fine grinding. When polishing softer metal products, diatomaceous earth and pumice are generally used.
